Washington DC – Keith Ellison unveiled more than 30 new endorsements from WI Democratic leaders last week on a nation press call with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

DNC voting-member Andrew Werthmann announced on the call for the first time publicly that he will be supporting Ellison in February’s chair election. Werthman joins fellow DNC-voting members Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Martha Laning and Rep. David Bowen (District 10-Milwaukee) who have previously endorsed Ellison. The news came just one day after Michigan Democratic Party chair Brandon Dillon endorsed Ellison.

In addition to Werthmann, state senator Chris Larson (District 7-Milwaukee), state Rep. Katrina Shankland (71-Stevens Point), and state Rep. David Bowen (District 10-Milwaukee) joined the media call announcing their support.

Quotes from Today’s Call (full audio here):

Rep. Keith Ellison (MN-5): (7:59) “Working families need an advocate that's going to fight for them, that's going help them to unify and come together, so that we can advance our common interests -- to earn a living, retire in dignity, give our children a real future and good education. … These things are not too much to ask, but all of them are on the line in the era of Donald Trump. There's got to be an organization that unifies us in all of our different walks of life. A force that can stand up for all Americans, and I believe that is the Democratic Party. We all are necessary to defeat the Trump agenda, but even more importantly to advance the working people’s agenda.”

Andrew Werthmann, DNC voting member and Eau Claire City Council member: (6:20) "[Keith Ellison] understands that a progressive populist agenda that lifts up all people is what is needed at this time. (5:16) Both as a rural organizer and as a city council member, I’ve seen people spend time talking to their neighbors, printing out literature, and getting organized -- it’s always on issues where they directly see that their involvement can make a difference in their community. That connection is what inspires people to become their own leaders. After witnessing the results of this past election, it has become clear that the same work we need to do here in Wisconsin is the work we have to do on the national level.”
