California Democrats Overwhelmingly Support Keith Ellison at Townhall Conference Call

WASHINGTON, DC – Over the weekend, California Democrats held a townhall conference call. During the call, Democrats from the Golden State stressed that they wanted the Democratic Party to focus on grassroots organizing, to protect President Obama's legacy, and to hold Donald Trump accountable. 

They also voted on whom they'd like to see lead this effort as the next Chair of the Democratic National Committee. Keith Ellison received an overwhelming 55% of the vote. Below you'll find the complete results of the poll:

  • Undecided - 22%
  • Perez - 12%
  • Buttigieg - 5%
  • Brown - 2%
  • Greene - 2%
  • Harrison - 2%
  • Buckley - 1%

“After this weekend’s call, I know California Democrats are energized and ready to move our party forward,” said DNC Secretary Emeritus Alice Germond. “I am also incredibly excited to see so many of my fellow California Democrats supporting Keith Ellison for DNC Chair. Our next DNC Chair must bring out the best in each and every one of us, have a proven record, seek our counsel, inspire and mobilize us, make us and those who would join this, the oldest Party in this great democracy, welcome in fighting for our future. Keith is that person and I hope Democrats across our country will join me in supporting him for DNC Chair.”

Keith has also been endorsed by California Democratic Party Vice Chair and Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Alan Lowenthal, Congressman Jared Huffman, Congressman Ted Lieu, Congressman Ro Khanna, Former Congressman Mike Honda, Former Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Former Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, and worker advocate Dolores Huerta. Additionally, he was endorsed by UNITE HERE, which represents more than 265,000 working men and women in the United States.
