WASHINGTON DC – College Democrats of America President Marvin McMoore and Vice-President Ellen Lindblom released a letter to DNC members endorsing Keith Ellison for DNC Chair.

President McMoore and Vice-President Lindblom are DNC voting members.

The letter states, “We know that, in this moment, Democrats need a leader who will be honest about the barriers that exist between young people and the Democratic Party and have the ability and desire to bring us into the conversation. That leader is Keith Ellison. Keith understands that in order to be effective, the Democratic Party must empower young people at every level. He knows that we improve youth engagement by encouraging student activists to seek leadership positions - that includes inspiring young Democrats to run for office, work on campaigns, and take on leadership roles within the Party.”

And later, “As we move closer to one of the most critical decisions in the history of the party, we know that Keith is the best choice. He knows what it takes to ensure that young people have a seat at the table.”

The following CDA State Federation Presidents also endorsed Ellison for DNC Chair:
John Bingham, New Jersey
Jack McNeil, Illinois
Santiago Nariño, Massachusetts
Xochitl Medrano, California
Pablo Valenzuela, Oregon
Jake Orvis, Georgia

Dear Fellow DNC Member,

So many people in the Democratic Party say young people are the future. But for those of us who are leaders on college campuses and in our local communities, our time is now - we are the present. We know that, in this moment, Democrats need a leader who will be honest about the barriers that exist between young people and the Democratic Party and have the ability and desire to bring us into the conversation.

That leader is Keith Ellison.

Keith understands that in order to be effective, the Democratic Party must empower young people at every level. He knows that we improve youth engagement by encouraging student activists to seek leadership positions - that includes inspiring young Democrats to run for office, work on campaigns, and take on leadership roles within the Party. Additionally, he knows that youth engagement must extend beyond a talking point--- public service oriented millennials need investment and resources from the DNC. He believes that when College Democrats and other youth organizations are fully funded, the Democratic Party succeeds.

Keith was the first candidate in the race for DNC Chair to release a comprehensive plan to engage millennials. And he gets that we have to meet young people where they are. In our increasingly digital world, the Party message must be easy to consume on mobile devices and easy to share with others. He will expand tools and technology to create online content for young people.

Keith also wants to recruit grassroots activists from diverse backgrounds to share their vision within the Democratic Party. As college campuses are the focal point of progressive movements, this is an essential step to ensure that millennials identify as Democrats. He wants to create informative videos to engage voters on everything from access to women’s reproductive choice, modern civil rights struggles like BLM, NoDaPL and LGBTQ+ equality, college affordability, and immigration.

In essence, Keith knows that when it comes to young people, we’ve got to get them the resources they need. During the 2016 cycle, the Republican National Committee significantly outspent the DNC in their youth investment. This must never happen again. The Democratic Party is the only party that is aligned with young people and our issues. Accordingly, the DNC budget must reflect those values with a commitment to investing in the younger generation of Democrats. We support Keith’s commitment to building a fundraising network that will enable us to get the resources we need to be effective.

As we move closer to one of the most critical decisions in the history of the party, we know that Keith is the best choice. He knows what it takes to ensure that young people have a seat at the table.

We hope you will join with us in supporting him.

In solidarity,

Marvin McMoore, President, College Democrats of America
Ellen Lindblom, Vice-President, College Democrats of America
